Skin structure and function
There are physical signs that show the aging of the skin. To know about the causes of wrinkles, you must have a good understanding about how the skin is formed. The skin is made up of 3 layers . They are epidermis, the dermis and subcutaneous tissue.
1. Epidermis
This outer layer of your skin becomes thinner and less elastic as we age. Your skin, then, gets dry and as this decreases over time, it takes more time for the skin to repair itself.
2. Dermis
This is the skin's next layer. Dermis contains connective tissue, such as collagen, elastic tissue and reticular fibers. When these fibers begin to weaken, fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. There are other specialized cells and structures, including hair follicles, sweat and oil glands, blood vessels and nerves.
3. Subcutaneous Layer
Below the dermis are layers of fat. These cells supply insulation to your body and also make your skin full and plump.
